Terms of Service

Effective 30 September 2026

These terms apply when you use Discretion at discretion.chat ("Discretion", "the Service", "we", "us"). Discretion lets you practise conversations such as asking for a raise, a first date or a job interview with an AI conversation partner, and get feedback afterwards. By using the Service you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.

1. Who can use Discretion

You must be at least 16 years old. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you should have a parent or guardian's permission.

2. What the Service is, and what it isn't

  • The people you talk to on Discretion are characters played by artificial intelligence. They are not real people, and what they say is generated by a computer model.
  • AI output can be inaccurate, inconsistent or unrealistic. Feedback is a suggestion, not an expert assessment. Use your own judgement about what to say in real life.
  • Discretion is a practice tool. It is not therapy, counselling, or medical, legal, financial or career advice, and it is not a substitute for a qualified professional.
  • If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself or someone else, please contact your local emergency number or a crisis line now. Discretion cannot help in an emergency.

3. Using the Service fairly

You agree not to:

  • use the Service for anything illegal, or to create sexual content, content involving minors, or content that harasses, threatens or targets a real person;
  • enter other people's personal information, or sensitive details about yourself (such as ID or bank numbers, passwords, or health records) - describe situations in general terms instead;
  • overload the Service, access it with automated scripts, or try to get around its limits or safety checks;
  • copy, resell or reverse-engineer the Service.

We may refuse a message, limit how much you can use the Service per day, or block access if these rules are broken.

4. Your content

You keep any rights you have in what you type. You give us permission to store and process it to run the Service, produce your partner's replies and your feedback, keep the Service safe, and improve it. The Privacy Policy explains what we store and for how long, and how to ask us to delete it.

5. Price and the waitlist

Trying the practice scenarios on this site is free and needs no account. Joining the waitlist is free and only means we may email you when more of the Service becomes available. If we introduce paid features later, we will show the price before you pay and you will not be charged without choosing to buy.

6. Changes and availability

The Service is at an early stage. We may add, change or remove scenarios and features, change which AI models we use, or pause the Service. We will post material changes to these terms on this page and update the effective date.

7. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no promises that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that its output will be accurate or suitable for your situation. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that cannot be excluded.

8. Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for decisions you make based on the Service's output. Our total liability for any claim about the Service is limited to the greater of US$100 or the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim.

9. Copyright complaints

If you believe something on the Service infringes your copyright, email compliance@discretion.chat with the work concerned, where it appears on the Service, your contact details, and a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised.

10. Customers of the former Discretion AI service

Until 30 September 2026, discretion.chat operated a different product, an adult AI companion service, which has now been retired. Purchases made for that service were made under its terms, which remain available here. If you made a purchase and have a question about it, email compliance@discretion.chat.
